I decided to do a post on movies. Here's a list of movies that I like: (The links take you to the Plugged In reviews)
Tangled (Disney)
I absolutely love this film! Saw it for the first time, Tuesday night. Hilarious. Pixar did a great job (as usual) on the animation.

Time Changer (Rich Christiano)
This is very good, and makes some very good points. The only objectionable thing is one use of the word "gosh" (which stands for God)
Ratatouille (Disney)
We love this movie! Great animation, very funny.
Other Good Movies:
Flywheel
What are your thoughts on these movies? Comment and tell me your favorites.

I haven't seen Tangled yet, but I here it's really good. But I don't think Pixar had anything to do with it. I think it was just Disney.
I've heard of Time Changer, and I have friends who say it's really good, but I haven't seen it yet.
Ratatouille is definitely one of my favorite animated movies. You can't really go wrong with Pixar. :)
Other Good Movies:
Facing the Giants, Fireproof, Flywheel, (and I'm sure I'll like the upcoming Courageous), Narnias 1, 2, and 3 (although I haven't seen Dawn Treader yet, I hear it's the best of the three), Inception, Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Vantage Point, Monsters Inc., Cars, Wall-e, Up, Toy Stories 1, 2, and 3, Bug's Life, Incredibles (though I don't like it as much as the others), and Finding Nemo.
I could probably think of more, but those are all definitely at the top.
P.S. Why do you say that 'gosh' stands for God? It's something to say in place of taking the Lord's Name in vain. Do you at least think it's better than using God's Name? I personally don't like to say it myself (I usually stick to 'goodness'), but I don't think it's necessarily wrong to say it.
Sorry I have not commented in a while for some reason my computer wouldn't let me comment on bloggs :( anyway I like facing the Giants!!! Oh and "Gosh" takes the name of the Lord in vain :( I don't believemin saying that word....
@ Christian: I know a lot of people dont know what they're saying when they use words like Gosh, gee, heck, darn (check the meaning in a dictionary) but I think they are bad to say if you know what they mean. My dad doesn't even like us watching videos with a lot of those words in them. (he usually mutes it because he doesn't want my younger brothers to start saying them) Now I dont think it's bad at all for other people to watch them. It's just my dads personal conviction. Anyway Tangled is awesome (probably my favorite, definitely one ofmy favorites) and I can't wait to see Courageous. :) @ Brittini: Glad you got your computer working again. :) Yeah I like Facing the Giants too. It's really good!
I definitely see your point of view Luke. I looked up the meaning of "gosh" and the dictionary says that it originated in the 18th century as a euphemism for God. The definition of euphemism is "the substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt."
Therefore, it is my personal conviction that it is much better to say "gosh" than to take God's Name in vain. Because it is a euphemism, it is not the actual word, therefore, it is not an offense against God, unless done purposefully with the mindset of offending God. And although I prefer not to use the word, I don't think it is wrong to do so.
"Gee", according to the dictionary is a euphemism for Jesus' Name, and what I said before applies with this one as well. I don't think I've ever said this word though, but my family does watch things with the word frequently in it (such as the old TV show Leave It to Beaver). Again, I think it's the intent behind the use of the word that matters. If you're trying to swear in a more acceptable way, then it's wrong. But if you are trying to express yourself in a way that is not dishonoring to God's Name.
My dad does not let us say "heck", and I totally understand why, but I have heard him say it before, and I do not believe it is wrong. But I do think it is a bad habit to get into. So I say, "What in the world?" The definition in the dictionary says that it is, as most would expect, a euphemism for "(the opposite of Heaven)" originating in the 1850s. I, again, don't think that saying "heck" is something vulgar, but it is a bad thing to get into the regular habit of saying.
"Darn" is a euphemism for you-(probably)know-what, and is actually something that I say from time to time, along with "shoot," both of which are acceptable in our house, while "dang" is not, for some reason. The dictionary says that "darn" originated in the New Englad colonies as a totally acceptable substitution for using bad language which was then a punishable offense. It also is said to have been a favorite phrase of Andrew Jackson and others.
So, with all those (excepting "heck"), my view is that they are acceptable replacements for bad language, so it's better to say them than to use the bad language. They definitely aren't on the same level. But I can see why your dad does not allow you to say (or even hear) them.
But one thing that I should confess that I and my family should do a better job of is not watching movies with real bad language.
As you probably noticed from my list of favorite movies, I am allowed to watch movies with bad language. My dad knows that I'm old enough to handle it, and we don't watch movies with bad sexual content, but it's still not very right.
Although I did once struggle with swearing in my head, I know that now I don't ever have the temptation to use bad words in my mind or out loud. So my dad allows me and my 12-year-old brother to watch movies with a fair amount of language in them. Obviously we don't watch the movies for the language; it's always because it's otherwise a really good movie, but we shouldn't really be filling our minds with those words.
Nor should we be paying the people who made the movies to put that junk in there. So I admit that there is that problem. But I am sticking to my conviction that words like "gosh", "heck", and "darn" are not wrong to say, if used infrequently and in moderation.
Thanks for taking the time to read my comment!
You're welcome. :) I guess you'll stick with yours and I'll stick with mine. :) I do have a bigger problem with people swearing on purpose than saying something like gosh and not knowing what it means. Anyway, thanks for commenting!
BTW, what do you think when characters (usually bad guys) in Odyssey use words like "daft", "blast", or "son of a gun"?
I don't like it when the characters say bad words on odyssey.. any way
@ Luke we had a great service yesterday morning... my friend got filled with the HolyGhost!!! He was speaking in tounges!!! It was awesome!!!
So I have a real testimony that it happens... also a lady from my church got drunk in the sprit talk about AWESOME!! God's really been moving in our services!! Thank the Lord!!
@ Christian: I don't have a problem with daft or blast. What does "son of a gun" mean?
@ Brittini: Yeah, we had a good service last Sunday night. Had an altar service, several people went to the altar, and several were annointed!
Well, if you don't know what it is a euphemism for, then I don't think I should tell you. Ask your dad.
BTW, what do you mean by annointed?
I just read what it used to stand for. Does Odyssey really use that?! They probably...shouldn't. :)
When someone is sick or have an unsaved relative or something, they can come up to the altar, and people will gather around them, and the preacher will lay hands on their head and pray for their specific request. You've never heard of it?
DO you believe in being filled with the HOlyGhost Luke?
Also I love the feeling when God moves in our serv.s It's such a sweet feeling
Um, not like you guys do. We believe in being entirely sanctified, where you surrender yourself completely to God, and he removes the carnal nature from your heart, but we don't believe in speaking in tongues and stuff. What does being drunk in the spirit mean?
@ Christian: http://thetoo.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=28459 You can read that to see why we do some of the stuff Holiness people do.
What you described sounds fine. In fact, I've been a part of something like that before myself. But we just didn't call it 'anointing'.
I read your church's creed on your website through your About Me page. So I understand what you believe. I disagree with a few things, but it seems that you have the foundational stuff, so at least that's good.
P.S. I think Brittini gets the "drunk with the Spirit" idea from the verse that says, "Don't get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery; instead, be filled with the Spirit." That's my guess. But maybe I'm wrong. I'd never heard of it before either.
Being "drunk" in the sprit is where your soo filled with the holyshost you don't know what to do either laugh or cry - I think - I've never been drunk - in the sprit- but the lady that did said it was the BEST feeling she's EVER felt!!
also speaking in tounges in in the Bible- Acts chapter 2. oh yeah Luke I agree with every thing you said about jewlery, hair, tv... so we have pretty much every thing alike except the holyghost part. maybe you should seek God for the answer He might just fill you if you believe- ask him to fill you with the holyghost, you'll speak in tounges!!! Also read that vrs. I mentioned!!
The anointing part- comes from Psalms dosn't it Luke? Thou anointest mine head with oil? Psalms 23? You also get anointed when prreaching when the Lord comes down..... It's hard to explain!!
@ Christian: Which website did you read? BTW when I said to read the ToO, i meant so you could see why our women don't cut their hair and stuff. I never actually talked about annointing there.
@ Brittini: I read the part of Acts 2 about speaking in tongues. I have eSword, so I looked at Albert Barnes notes on that verse too. He said that the Apostles spoke in lots of different languages so everybody could understand. I'm not sure where the Bible talks about annointing. BTW, I remember you asked to see a picture of our family. If you go on Facebook, my profile picture is a family picture
I can't get on facebook is there anywhere else I can see the pic? like maybe on your "about me page"? Aslo do you get what I was talking about on speaking in tougnes?
@ Luke: Alright. I agree with you about hair. But I don't think the Bible ever says that women shouldn't cut their hair. I do believe that it should be relatively long, but not that you shouldn't ever have it cut. Otherwise, it could get annoying. But men, I agree, shouldn't have any length of hair much farther than their ears. That concept is quite counter-cultural today.
I see your point about jewelry, but I've never thought of it that way. I don't think it's wrong to wear jewelry. In fact, it is mentioned quite often in the Old Testament. I think that women shouldn't wear flirty jewlery (bellybutton rings especially), but we see earrings and bracelets and nose rings. (I don't actually think nose rings are okay, but that's just a personal preference.) The Bible doesn't say not to wear them, except in that one passage talking about church, and even that could have been just directed toward the Corinthian church because of particular problems there. So it is not wrong, but you're right, it doesn't do anything other than make women look more beautiful, which, again, isn't necessarily a bad thing, if they're not doing it for the wrong reasons.
I fully agree about TV. When my family goes to hotels, it's pretty difficult to find something okay to watch. We got rid of TV eight years ago, but we still have tapes and DVDs that we watch. We don't have filters on the Internet, mostly because my dad trusts my siblings and I to do what we know is right. I myself had a problem with looking at the wrong things on the Internet a few years ago, but the Holy Spirit convicted me and helped me overcome it.
@ Brittini: You are correct. Acts 2 (and 19 and 10/11) talk about speaking in tongues. But it is specifically shown that those instances were signs for the Jews to show that the Gentiles were accepted by God just as they were. And Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13 that "tongues will cease". Just like the gift of being an apostle stopped when the apostles died, I believe that the gift of tongues stopped around that time as well.
I know you probably don't agree, but I believe that that much is somewhat clear in the Bible. I don't really know what to say about being "drunk" in the Spirit, but that it sounds dangerous to me, and I don't see anything in Scripture about it, which is always supposed to be where we look. You shouldn't accept something as true just because of tradition, but you should search the Bible for yourself and seek out the truth.
P.S. I went to http://franklinphc.org/default.aspx to get the original info about the PHC movement, but then I just read your ToO post.
You have a Wii too? That's one of the main things we do with our TV too. But we use that in moderation as well. Usually we're only allowed to play once a week on Fridays.
@ Christian: Yeah, I don't like TV, but we do watch DVDs and stuff. There might be another verse about the cutting of the hair, I'm just not sure where. And I don't see any reason to wear jewelry, but I guess God can convict people of that if he wants to. I don't play the Wii a lot, but we got one for Christmas. The website you mentioned is actually for our specific church. How did you find it?
@ Brittini: I'm afraid I'd have to agree more with Christian about speaking in toungues and getting drunk in the spirit, unless I saw what actually happened. Maybe a video or something? BTW, I'll try to get the picture up soon.
@ Luke: I got to the website from your "About Me" page. Did you forget you had a link there?
BTW, this is my church's website: http://heritagerbc.com/home
The man who is sitting down a little farther away in the picture on the far right in the bottom row of pictures near the bottom of the page is my pastor.
Mine is www.Bibleholiness.net
We don't have on there what we believe on there sorry!!
@ Christian: Yeah, I remember putting that on my old website. You live in Ohio? Cool, we're not that far from each other.
@ Brittini: I thought your pastor's wife looked familiar, but maybe I'm wrong. BTW, I'll going to put the picture on our About Me page. Do you have an account on the ToO?
I'm guessing you're the one on the far right with your arm on your dad's shoulder? You look a lot different than I imagined you to look. But you'd probably say the same about me if you saw me. I always pictured you as Matthew Parker since that's your avatar. :D So maybe you picture me as that guy with a mask on with a big smile. :D
lol, yeah. Ditto about you when I saw your picture. :)
When did you see my picture?
I think it was you. Didn't you put your picture on your blog?
Ummm... not that I remember. My dad hasn't let me do that. The only person whom I've shown my picture is Marvin, and that was in a letter that I sent to him. I don't remember putting any pictures on my blog. I'll have to look back.
Maybe it was someone else. Whoever it was I remember Brittini saying that they were taller than she was.
